I’ve never been much of a painter.
One of the hallmarks of the type of artwork that I am most interested in doing *coughcough* fantasy artwork *coughcough* is a painterly style, regardless of medium. Exceptions abound, especially in black and white productions, which have their roots in comic book style art, but with the advent of low-cost printing techniques and constantly rising standards of quality, rendering has become more and more of the norm.
Therefore, after several failed attempts to teach myself to paint with Photoshop over the years, I have decided to give myself an assignment: On Sundays, I shall paint as much as I can in two hours.
And here is the result of today’s exercise:
Some of you may remember IsilanaRith from Day 54, some of you will not. Anyhow, this was part of an art trade that I had never finished working on, and althohu it’s not a new sketch, the colors are new.
I found that I tended to get distracted and impatient when working on something like this, and I may have also shot myself in the foot by giving myself the task of painting a shiny, highly reflective, multicolored creature to paint. Keeping her on model was hard enough, and not really feeling like I knew what I was doing only made it harder.
Nevertheless, I shall persist and get the rest of her done so I can put that art karma behind me, and paint something a little less challenging while I get my chops up.
