I’ve always been a fan of the color gradations and striations that appear in nature, like those in a betta fish, a sunset, and the list goes on. So I decided to put my money where my mouth was and paint a version of that (apparently) multicolored dragon from last night.
I haven’t seriously picked up a paintbrush or my (very) roughly-used Prang 16-color watercolor set since my second year of college, when I tried to make a very ambitious watercolored animated project. I actually succeeded, but apparently needed a little over 10 years to recover my interest in the medium again, because I decided somewhere along the line that digital would fix everything.
It hasn’t.
Anyhow, I’ve been reading about watercolor techniques on and off since then, and even bought my father a book of beginning watercolor techniques for his birthday, so my coloring is a little subtler than it was in the past (I really used them more like markers back then, though I’m still a long way from actually being painterly)…
