If I never slept again, I would probably become a decent painter.
For various reasons, including the ones mentioned earlier this week, I was really sleepy as I started painting tonight.
I started off with a less-than-optimal sketch,
and then started blocking out colors, being careful to actually go over the lines this time, for less of the “where’s my heavy black outlines?” look from Speedpaint Sundays past.
I made some decisions about the fins on the fly, but then I just started working in the same layer, putting down low-transparency shadows of a different tint of the base color (you can see where I started on the eye), correcting (for the most part) with sampled bits of base color as appropriate. If I weren’t feeling like I was about to fall over and sleep at the keyboard, I’d still be pounding away at this:
But things are what they are, and I have to work in a few hours. On the whole, I feel… good, like I took a chance and did better than I expected to. Goodnight everybody.
