Sometimes I feel so hamfisted with this digital painting thing that I just want to give up. It gets a little worse when I realize that I am fast approaching week 52, and don’t feel like I have made any real progress.
Granted, I am only doing it once a week, unsupervised, for a few hours at most, but it’s not like I’m not using Photoshop during the rest of that time. I’m plenty comfortable with its other features, but this… pfft.
I think that part of it is that I am struggling wit the idea of seeing things in a different way; that I am used to line art and hard-edged shadows in my coloring. I’m still not sure how to get around this hurdle, but that’s probably a big part of it.
Anyhow, I did this tonight. I had a good idea of where colors ought ot go, again, but not of what to do with them once I got them there. It seemed like I would render a highlight out of existence or I would lay a shadow on so thick that it looked like I was just trying to cel-shade it, which added to my frustration, yadda yadda yadda:
